Q:  What is the difference between the Core class and Boot Camp?

A:  Boot Camp is geared toward general fitness, while increasing strength and cardiovascular endurance, while the Core class is designed to improve the core muscles, general muscle strength, and cardiovascular endurance. Both classes are great to increase both motivation and the overall health of the participant, whether it's an athlete or someone looking to get back in shape.  The Camarillo Family YMCA is pleased to offer both classes to it's members and the community.  Please click here for more information.

Q:  Where is the Core, and why would I need or want to improve it?

A:  Your core is composed of the muscle group from the pelvis to the ribcage.  Keeping these in shape is beneficial to your overall health, and here are 4 reasons why:

  • Core exercises can increase your stability and balance by training the muscles in your lower back, hips, pelvis, and abdomen to work in harmony.
  • Core exercises can help tone your abdominal muscles
  • Strong core muscles make it easier to participate in most physical activities.  Weak core muscles can leave a person susceptible to muscle injuries, poor posture, and lower back pain.
  • Core exercises can help you reach your fitness goals by rounding out your routine
