Register Now for the 2008-2009

Camarillo Family YMCA Child Care Program

With all the summer excitement going on around here, it’s hard to believe it’s already time to think about before- and after- school child care for the 2008-2009 school year!  Since we know you’d like to be outdoors enjoying time with your families, rather than inside making phone calls and sitting at a computer researching child care options, we would like to recommend the Camarillo Family YMCA as your solution.

The Camarillo Family YMCA offers affordable, high quality child care for children in grades K-6, and services the Pleasant Valley School District, University Prep School, and C.A.P.E.  It is California state-licensed, and features well-trained staff, homework tutoring, structured games and activities, and a low child-to-staff ratio.  The operational hours are before- and after-school from 6:45am to 6:30pm, and transportation is included to and from many schools in the district to childcare sites located at Las Posas, Dos Caminos, Tierra Linda, and La Mariposa schools, and the Camarillo Family YMCA.

Registration is underway, so sign your kids up already, and get back to the barbeque.  There’s more summer fun to be had!

Shoot Hoops at the Y!

The Camarillo Family YMCA is honored to be a part of the Jr. NBA/Jr.WNBA basketball program, which emphasizes skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship, while encouraging young players to develop a love for the game and what it takes to be successful on and off the court.  The Fall Friday Night Basketball league is open to children 3-14 years of age, and consists of co-ed teams (except in the 12-14 age group) playing 8 Friday evening games.    The first practice is on 8/23, and the first game is September 5th.  The cost to participate is $85 for Camarillo Family YMCA members and $100 for the community.  Fees include a jersey, shorts and an end-of-season trophy, and players can receive a $10 discount for using last season’s black and red uniform.  For more information, click here or call 484-0423.

Also starting soon is the 6th season of the Camarillo Family YMCA adult basketball league!  Don’t miss your chance to play- the season starts on 9/16!

Summer Happenings at the Y

Warm sunshine, the smell of sunscreen, and the pitter-patter of lots of little footsteps in our hallways and on the pool deck…  Yes, it’s summertime at the Camarillo Family YMCA!

Summer camp and swim lessons are in full swing.  Children are playing sports and improving their skills, going on outrageous outings, learning how to swim, and making new friends.   The fun is underway, but it’s not too late to sign your children up for camps or swim lessons if you haven’t already done so.  These summer activities will be running through August 22- just click here for the full list of offerings and more information.

Adults can join in the summer fun too, with themed cycle classes on Fridays, (like cycling legs of the Tour de France and the Road to Hana), a new evening Aqua Fitness class, and a Summer II Session of Boot Camp.  There will also be outdoor fitness classes, Member Appreciation Days, and don’t forget to get your daily Bingo numbers to win great prizes!

Time Spent Together… Priceless!

Starting on August 11, sign up to carve out some quality time with your children in the Camarillo Family YMCA Adventure Guides program!  Designed for parents and kids (in K-4th grades), Adventure Guides promotes parent-child interaction through fun events and activities.  Parents and children can join as father/son, father daughter, or mother/daughter.  Adventure Guides are free for Camarillo Family YMCA members, or costs $85 for parent/child non-members (each additional non-member child is $35).

To join the program, please visit the Welcome Center at the Camarillo Family YMCA, or call 484-0423 or click here for more information.

Swimming with the Master

The Camarillo Family YMCA is pleased to announce the arrival of our new Masters swim coach, Drew Isais.  Drew originally hails from Monterey, CA, but has lived in the Camarillo area for the last 9 years.  He swam and played water polo for Camarillo High School, where his favorite strokes were butterfly and backstroke.  Swimmers in the Masters Program with Drew can expect to improve their strokes and build endurance, while enjoying the camaraderie of the group.

Some additional things about Drew:

  • He prefers Pepsi to Coca Cola
  • He prefers snow to the sun
  • The most interesting trips he has taken were to Japan and France
  • His favorite breakfast food is coffee
  • If he could have any superpower, it would be the ability to breathe underwater… perfect for a swim coach, right?!

Come join Drew and the rest of the Masters swimmers on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-8pm.  Masters swimming is free for members, and you don’t need to be an expert to swim with these fish!  (Non- members pay $76 per month.)

2008 Kids to Camp Campaign

Every summer the Channel Islands YMCA sends over 1,800 kids to Day and Resident Camps.  Over half receive financial assistance through camperships, which are funded through the annual Kids to Camp Campaign.

With financial assistance from the Kids to Camp Campaign, campers are able to experience character and self-esteem-building summer adventures, like discovering tidepools and country trails, making their first s’mores over a real campfire, and building friendships that last a lifetime.

Together we can make a difference in their lives, and in our community.

If you are interested in contributing to the 2008 Kids to Camp campaign, please call DeAnn Molitor at 805-484-0423, or click here for more information.
