We have a great opportunity for you to help out as a camp counselor! Donate one week of your summer and work with campers age 9-15 and peers from 16-116! Bring your best friend or siblings along to create lasting memories together.

The Best Preparation for Life?

In a December 2007 New York Times Magazine interview, director Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather, etc) was asked if there was something he’d prefer to be remembered for. His response was, “If I have to be remembered for something, I want it remembered that I really liked children and was a good camp counselor”.

The best-kept secret about working for YMCA Camp is that it is a great way to jumpstart your career. On the job here, you can learn leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and technical skills you can use anywhere. The thing is, you won't want to leave - because life without camp would be like summer without ice cream. We are a part of something bigger than ourselves - something that will last beyond our own careers.

We work hard, and it feels wonderful to profoundly and positively impact the lives of children, teens, young adults, and families in a real way every day. Working in a beautiful setting with people who share a common desire to make a difference in people's lives isn't bad either. Think about it.

  • Campaign for Youth 2008

The Santa Barbara Family YMCA touched more than 20,200 people each year through life-enhancing programs that  strengthen relationships, instill positive values and promote healthy lives. It is the goal of the YMCA to be accessible to everyone regardless of their financial status. Through the Campaign for Youth 2008, funds are provided to subsidize high need programs in addition to providing direct financial assistance to youth families for camp, childcare, teen leadership, character development, family and wellness activities. This year, it is necessary to raise $145,000 in Campaign for Youth 2008 to provide direct financial assistance and program subsidy to assure that no one is turned away from important YMCA programs. By making a gift to the Campaign for Youth 2008, you can make a difference in the life of a child. Please make your commitment today.
