Programs & Schedules: Youth Programs

Current Schedule

Counselors In Training (CIT)

The YMCA is looking for a few dedicated, service-oriented teens to join our qualified staff team as Counselors-In-Training. Enthusiasm, willingness to learn, responsibility and a genuine love for kids are prerequisites for CITs. They will receive an extensive training program that teaches YMCA values, leadership and communication skills. Once these skills are developed, CITs will be able to apply to assist at summer day camp. Most of all, summer will be fun and rewarding.

Note: Only those who have completed this training will be interviewed for the hands-on-experience during the summer sessions. Interviews to be announced.

Youth and Government

The mission of California YMCA Youth and Government is to ensure leadership, democracy, and the YMCA Core Values, and to instill that "Democracy must be learned by each generation." Delegates learn the roles and responsibilities of state legislators and court members while at trainings and election conferences. During weekly meetings, delegates learn how to write bills, raise funds, build teams, plan campaigns to run as a state officer for the Y&G government, and have a lot of fun. Students come from all over Santa Barbara to learn how state government works by acting as an active participant. Delegates are their own teachers, students, role models, and mentors! In February, delegates will take over the Capitol and debate legislation on the actual Senate and Assembly floors. This is an opportunity of a lifetime!

Pizza Party! Learn more on Monday, Sept.10. Contact the Teen Director.
