ymca sports pledge

Sports participation keeps kids physically active and provides them with opportunities for positive development. As children strive to achieve individual and team goals, YMCA participants learn fundamental skills and positive values using the Character Counts! framework from coaches trained by the American Sport Education Program.
youth baseball League
This program, which begins with practices the week of April 12th and ends on June 5th, is designed for boys and girls in pre-K through 6th grades. Each player will be placed on a team where they will learn about fundamental baseball skills, teamwork, and character development. The league consists of trained coaches. Players will wear team jerseys/shirts, take pictures (optional), and receive a trophy and ice cream social at the end of the season. Teams practice once per week at the YMCA. There will be a clinic for all players on Saturday, April 10th (times listed below).

Youth basketball league
This Program, which begins in early January and ends in mid/late March is designed for boys and girls in the 1st-8th grade. Each player will be placed on a team where they will learn fundamental basketball skills, teamwork, and character development. The league consists of trained coaches and officials. Players will wear a team jersey, take pictures (optional), and receive a trophy and ice cream social at the end of the season. Teams practice once during the week at the Santa Barbara Family YMCA. This is a popular program with limited space, sign up now (price will increase for November registrations).
GAME SCHEDULE:
1st/2nd grades-Games on Saturday mornings
3rd/4th grades-Games on Saturday afternoons
5th/6th grades-Games on Friday nights
7th/8th grades-Game times are T.B.A.

Youth Flag Football
The Santa Barbara Family YMCA is collaborating with the Montecito YMCA and other organizations to provide an eight-man flag football league. This league will consist of one practice per week beginning in mid-September and will also include nine games. The season will kick-off on September 25th and will end on November 20th. This league will participate in the Character Counts! Program. Games will be played at various sites and all practices will be held at the Santa Barbara Family YMCA. Registration will run from July 1-September 13 (or until registration reaches capacity).
Divisions: 1st-3rd, 4th-6th, Jr. High School
Schedule: One practice per week and one
Saturday game per week

Youth Soccer league
This co-ed program will provide young players with an opportunity to enjoy soccer in a positive and fun learning environment. All games and practices will be held on Saturdays and is set-up like a clinic with scrimmages.
Divisions: Pre-K Ages 4-5 years old
(9:15-10:00 a.m.)-may combine
Kindergarten Ages 5-6 years old
(10:05-10:50 a.m.)-may combine
Rookies 1st-2nd grade (11:00-12:15)
Champs 3rd-4th grade (12:30-1:45)

itty bitty sports
All Itty Bitty programs are an introduction to fundamentals of the given sport. The emphasis is placed on teamwork and character development. The options below will allow your child to choose his/her favorite sport or try two sports during the Spring. Parent participation is essential for a successful program. Fee includes instruction, awards, and an ice cream social at the end of the session.

Itty Bitty Kung Fu
Boys and girls will learn to have fun with the animal movements
that come from Kung Fu practice. This will improve coordination,
balance, strength and self-esteem. Parents are strongly
encouraged to participate. Classes meet in Studio 2 (upstairs).

Teen Kung Fu
This class will help improve coordination, strength, balance and
self confidence. Wear loose workout attire. Advanced students
may want to compete in future tournaments. Chris Millner, 3rd
degree black belt, instructs this class. Classes meet in Studio

Adult Kung Fu
Kung Fu is the ancient art of Chinese self-defense where
students learn practical techniques that will improve balance,
build self-esteem and increase self-confidence. Chris Millner,
3rd degree black belt, instructs this class. Please contact the Sports Director with any questions.
Family Kung Fu
Children learn the Chinese martial art of Kung Fu using
the "Kung Fu Five Animal Movements" with emphasis on
coordination, balance, self defense and health. Parents are
welcome to attend and participate with their child. Fee includes
one child and their parent(s). Chris Millner is the black belt
instructor.
