Make a Splash at the YMCA!
Experienced staff
teach swimming to children 6 months to adults.
Instruction will improve stroke technique, build
endurance, teach water safety and character values.
If unsure which class to place your child, please contact Patty Espinoza, Program Assistant.
Spaces fill up quickly so please register your child at your earliest convenience. The instructor/child ratio is
kept low in order to better teach your child.
PARENT/CHILD
This class is for children 6-36 months of age and their parents. The primary objectives are to encourage
infants/toddlers to experience, explore, and test the aquatic environment by responding
with body movements and emotions, with the assistance and encouragement of a parent. Working
towards this goal promotes a child's awareness, confidence, and physical abilities.
YOUTH

Skippers (Preschool)
The main emphasis at this level is to help the child develope safe pool behavior, adjust to and develop independent movement in the water. |

Pike (Preschool)
For beginner swimmers. This class is designed for children just beginning or haven't had
that much experience in the water and are still hesitant. Main emphasis at this level is to help the
child develop safe pool behavior, adjust to and develop independent movement in the water. |

Eel/Ray (Preschool)
Intermediate/Advanced levels. Children are already acclimated to the water and are able to paddle
stroke 10-25 yards with bubble. Will work on achieving front and back paddle strokes without
assistance. |

Polliwog(Beginner)
This is the beginning level for school-age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the
use of floatation devices, and floating. By the end of this level, they should know the
front and back paddle, as well as sidestroke. |

Guppy (Adv. Beginner)
This advanced beginner level is for children that can swim one length of the pool on their front,
back, and side for 25 yards with a floatation belt. Children will be introduced to the lead up strokes
to the front and back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke. |

Minnow/Fish (Interm.)
This intermediate level is for children who can swim 25 yards of the pool on their front and back
using alternating paddles. Children will further refine front and back crawl, focusing on rotary
breathing and flutter kick. They will also work on the fundamentals of breaststroke. |

Flying Fish (Adv/ Pre-comp.)
At this advanced level, students should have refined front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke,
sidestroke and be able to swim 50 yards continuously. Children will refine all strokes
while increasing endurance. This class may be used in preparation for the Seals Swim Team. |
YOUTH COMPETITIVE

This program is geared for young, competitive hopefuos. At this advanced level, students should hae refined front crawl, breastroke, backstroke, sidestroke ad be able to swim 50 yeards continuously. children will refine all strokes while increasing endurance. This class may be used in prep for the Seals Swim Team.
Seal Swim Team
The YMCA Seal Team is designed for swimmers ages 6-15 years able to swim all
strokes and at least 4 lengths of the pool (100 yards) without assistance. All swim team members are
encouraged to swim in YMCA local swim meets (no additional cost). Everybody swims, everybody
wins!
ADULT COMPETIVE
Masters Swim Team
The Masters Swim Team is for all abilities of swimmers from the novice to the
competitive: to be able to train in a group environment, to develop more proficient
stroke technique and to be better conditioned. Whether you are swimming for fitness, training for a
triathlon or wanting to compete at Masters Swim meets, our swim coach is there to provide you with
what you need.
ADULT SWIM LESSON
Fear No More
This class is for adults who are afraid of water. Instructors work with students in a small group to help
them overcome their fears and begin to develop basic swim skills.
