Ventura Family YMCA
Located along one of the most scenic stretches of the California coast line, the Ventura Family YMCA has been serving the city of Ventura for 120 years. The YMCA got its start on September 30, 1887 with a house that was purchased on the corner of Santa Clara and Oak Street, the YMCA was then considered the YMCA of Ventura County. During 1919 the YMCA used the Occidental Hotel as a meeting house for volunteers and members. In the 1930’s it changed it’s location to a room above the high school auditorium located off of Catalina and Main Street. Just ten years later a log cabin was built across from the old mound school which housed the Y, Hi-Y and other youth programs for Ventura and Santa Paula. The 1940’s was a crucial time for the Y with the Pine Valley camp opening in 1946, and both the Youth and Government program and the Y’s Men’s Club starting in 1949. Following in 1981 the Ventura YMCA purchased its current property on Telegraph Rd which allowed the Y to expand its Fitness and Wellness programs throughout the county.
Today, the Ventura Family YMCA has grown with an expansive 5,000 facility members and provides childcare to over 200 children in its after-school programs. A 3,000 square foot natatorium was added with two heated indoor pools allowing an aquatics program to flourish and serve 4,500 children annually.
Since 1887 the Ventura Family YMCA has been building strong kids, strong families and stronger communities. The commitment permeates in everything the Y does with the ultimate goal of improving the lives of the people residing in its surrounding community. The Ventura Family YMCA serves Ventura, Oxnard, Santa Paula and Fillmore. By serving the Ventura area, the Y has found that not only is water skill and safety a must in this growing beach community, but so is a sense of home. The YMCA is dedicated to revive the sense of kinship that is often forgotten in growing communities. We welcome you to look through this site for valuable information about our services, programs and fitness facility but mostly importantly we invite you to come visit us - nothing is better than getting to know the YMCA family in person. We consider it an honor and a privilege to serve you.

Locker-room Renovation Information
Gentlemen get ready! Plans are currently being finalized for a much needed renovation of the men’s locker room. Rasmussen and Association, the architectural firm who provided services for the upgrade of the Facility in 1988, are providing pro-bono services for the project. The volunteers and staff at the Y would like to thank Rasmussen for their continued support. Construction will begin this Fall!
