Youth and GovernmenT

General Information

(Grades 9-12) Local and state governments are in the news every day. It's a perfect time in our history for kids to learn about these entities. 10th through 12th graders can take part in Youth & Government and learn about state laws and government, as well as civil and supreme court processes.

Come and join over 2,000 teenagers from across the State of California for this amazing program! Participants are trained in various government and court roles in preparation for the Model Legislature and Court Conference held at the State Capitol in Sacramento in February.
Participants spend the week writing bills, taking positions on legislative issues, running for elected offices, and covering government as members of the news media. Y&G is the only program in the State to have the privilege of working in the actual senate and assembly chambers of the Capitol Building!

Program Leadership

One of the important facets of the Youth and Government Program is the opportunity for participants to serve in leadership positions throughout the program. In the Model Legislature/Court we have two types of leadership Positions: Appointed and Elected.
