“YMCA Senior Healthy Lifestyles Day"
Wednesday, May 28th from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Senior Healthy Lifestyles Day gives Active Older Adults (AOA's) the opportunity to enjoy a FREE lunch while listening to a keynote speaker from Kaiser Permanente.  Representatives will also be available from Silver Sneakers, Ventura County Public Health, and Daugherty Vision to provide information geared towards personal health care, healthy lifestyles, nutrition, and activity information.

Fun, food, and raffle prizes will be offered throughout the day.  Stop by, meet new friends and learn all about how you can lead a healthier life as an AOA.

Guidelines & Policies

Members (age 12 and older) have full use of all areas of the facility. Members age 12-14 who are interested in using the weight rooms MUST complete a FitLinxx Orientation prior to using the equipment. This privilege is for YMCA facility members ONLY and may be revoked if inappropriate behavior is noted.  For safety reasons, members under the age of 12 are not allowed in any Wellness Center.

FitLinxx Orientation

This computerized program is the ultimate marriage of technology and fitness.  It allows our fitness staff to program an electronic personal trainer to orientate you on how to properly use all of our equipment and help you meet your specific goals and objectives.  This technology is FREE to all facility members!  Members can schedule an appointment with a fitness trainer, sign-up at the Welcome Center.

For Members:
An “electronic workout card” is available to every member on the kiosk. Members benifit from the following:

Track Progress through electronic graphs and reports

Get rewarded for their progress with the FitPoints™ Award System (see below)

Log-in non-machine activities such as jogging, swimming and fitness classes

Read messages from their trainer

FitPoints™ Award System

As you work out on the FitLinxx System it automatically keeps track of your accumulated FitPoints™.  With these point members are able to enjoy some great prizes and even a FREE month of membership at the platinum level.

Fitstart

If you have a hard time working out the FitStart will provide you with the tools to achieve your healthy lifestyle goals.  A Fitness Trainer will review your fitness & objectives, orientate you on how to use equipment properly, advise you on how to overcome barriers from exercising, and provide support during the first 12 weeks of your program.  This is a perfect program for individuals just starting a healthy lifestyle or who have a difficult time committing to an exercise plan.

Group Exercise Classes

We have over 75 group exercise classes available every week including Yoga, Pilates, step aerobics, studio cycling, water fitness, and more!  Schedules are available at the Welcome Center.

Zumba Class  
7:05 PM Monday Nights
In the Studio

Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin dance. It was founded by Miami-based dancer and choreographer Alberto 'Beto' Perez. Zumba combines Latin rhythms with cardiovascular exercise to create an aerobic routine that is fun and easy to follow.

Silver Sneakers

This program is offered in partnership with Secure Horizons at no additional cost to Medicare-eligible members.  Each member is entitled to a facility membership at the Ventura Family YMCA.  The Silver Sneakers Class offers a multi-level equipment based strength and conditioning exercises designed for Medicare-eligible individuals.  The classes are easy on your joints and appropriate for individuals who exercise regularly as well as those new to exercise or who may not have exercised in years.  The exercises are designed to improve your strength, flexibility, and the ability to perform functional activities such as getting out of your car or lifting your grandchildren!  For more information on a membership please contact the Welcome Center.

Independent Study PE

The Ventura Family YMCA partners with Foothill Technology, Ventura, Buena, El Camino, and Pacific High Schools to provide an opportunity for those students who would like to secure PE credit for graduation.  Students have full access to the facility and must meet the requirements set by their school in order to receive high school credit.  Independent Study PE forms can be obtained from a school counselor and must be approved by the Wellness Director.  Students must also complete necessary addition membership paperwork to become facility members.

Personal Training

Individuals interested personal attention and extra motivation during each workout should consider a Personal Trainer.  Personal Trainers will develop a workout that is geared towards your specific goals.  Personal Training sessions can be schedule at any time convenient to the Personal Trainer and Member.  For information on session costs please contact the Welcome Center.

Youth Strength Training

Participants between the ages of 9 and 13 will learn and understand the components of physical fitness. The program includes a cardiovascular workouts and endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility exercises led by a Fitness Trainer.  For more information on when sessions are offered and costs please contact the Welcome Center.

Youth Wellness

We currently offer over 100 youth classes and swim lessons each week for youth ages 3 - 12.  Each class will focus on the basic fundamentals, character development, and FUN!  Introduce your child to the joy of gymnastics, the excitement of youth sports, and character development.  Youth Wellness classes offered each session are Ballet, Tumbling, Irish Dance, Soccer, Racquetball, Basketball, Martial Arts, Art, and Drama.   For a schedule of sessions and registration dates contact the Youth Programs Coordinator at x13.

Adult Sports

Racquetball

The adult racquetball league is comprised of a seperate women's league and men's league and involves weekly matches which are scheduled at times that are convenient to both players. Participants play one match per week for seven weeks with playoffs being held during week eight. Beginner (C),  Intermediate (B), and Advanced (A) divisions are available and all participants receive a t-shirt. The league is a good way to make some new friends and stay active.

Basketball

Basketball is the newest addition to the adult sports offerings at the YMCA. Come shoot around with other members and play pick-up games on Wednesday nights from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m.  Open gym nights will be held at Anacapa Middle School in Ventura beginning April 16th.
