Shoot Hoops at the Y!
Today, the Y is still the starting point for many kids to learn this fast-paced sport brimming with team play and individual skills. Your kids won’t get cut from the team and won’t warm the bench. Kids will learn how to dribble, shoot, pass and rebound, and the positions of the game.
Youth basketball lays the foundation of staying active and developing healthy habits that kids can carry with them throughout their lives. With levels of instruction varying from beginner to competitive leagues, kids get great exercise and learn while doing it.
- Kids grow physically and mentally while having fun and learning the rules of the game
- Engaging coaches emphasize character development and temwork
- Every kid gets a chance to play in the game
This league will consist of one practice and game per week. Games will be played at the Santa Barbara Family YMCA or the Montecito Family YMCA.
Our coaches emphasize character development and encourage self-confidence with every practice and game.
Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
