Senior Fitness At The Santa Barbara Family YMCA

Our Active Older Adult (AOA) program is for everyone. AOA strives to offer a comprehensive and integrated program that encourages members to remain strong in the areas of physical, emotional, social, vocational, and intellectual well-being. Program is for all seniors looking to start or maintain a fitness program. Feel great at any age!

 

Classes For Active Older Adults

SENIOR CHAIR FITNESS

This combination of aerobic and strength exercises, all done in the chair, will keep you fit for life. Offered Monday to Friday with Debbie, join this class to learn how you can practice fitness skills wherever you are!

FIT FOR LIFE 

Check out this total body wellness program. Our volunteer instructors bring years of experience, knowledge and caring in a personable manner. Not only will you improve your cardio, strength and flexibility to the sounds of pleasant music, but you will very quickly feel like you belong here and a familiarity with your fellow participants.

T’AI CHI

This class involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing in accordance to Chinese tradition.

CORE & BALANCE 

Improve balance, strengthen major muscle groups and improve memory, using chair, body bar, and resistant bands.

CHAIR YOGA

Using the chair for support, balance, strength and flexibility. This class is perfect for those that may be apprehensive or intimidated to go into a regular yoga class. View Schedule Here

SCULPT & STRETCH

30 minutes of easy to follow bodysculpting with props to tone and lift your body, followed by 20 minutes of stretching.

LET IT GO YOGA

Long and supported stretches that can help to alleviate fatigue and challenges with breathing, using props for support and visualization for fostering body awareness.

DEEP WATER AEROBICS 

No-impact class that improves cardiovascular wellness, balance, muscular strength and self-esteem. Using a float belt, you will walk, jog, strengthen core and overall body strength while mostly in the pool’s deep end.

AQUA FLEX

Gentle shallow water exercise designed for those with arthritis, recovering from injury or surgery or anyone with limited mobility. You will gain flexibility, strength and endurance in a friendly, shallow-end environment, allowing for balance and agility under low impact.

SHALLOW WATER AEROBICS 

Improve your fitness level while minimizing stress on your joints. Improve your muscle tone, strength, flexibility and endurance in the shallow end of the pool. A high energy/low impact class.
