Students Run The Santa Ynez Valley

Our new running program will challenge students ages seven and up as they experience the benefits of goal-setting, character development, adult mentoring and improved health by providing them with a life-changing experience while training for a half-marathon or marathon. Please attend one of our informational meetings for more details.

This program is offered in partnership with all of the greater Santa Ynez Valley schools including: Solvang, Buellton, Santa Ynez, Los Olivos, and Ballard.

What is Students Run the Valley?

Students Run the Valley is a program to help kids learn about running in a fun atmosphere with peers from various schools. As a club, the kids will participate in local and regional events. Already love running or looking for a reason to start? We’ll train for local races that include 5k/10k/half marathons while focusing on injury prevention and having fun! The program offers kids the opportunity to improve their running ability while having a chance to learn from some of the best coaches in the area.

What is the purpose of the program?

The purpose of this program is to give youth, who would like to improve their abilities past the regular season, an opportunity to train with others in the area. A few benefits of this program is having fun, great coaches and mentors, make new friends, meet kids from other schools and states, achieve goals, be part of a team, stay in shape, traveling, all while training to achieve your best!

How much does this program cost?

This program has no cost – free to participants. Participants will be responsible for any race entry fees.

Where and when will group runs be held?

Each school will determine times/event for school-specific group runs.

Information will be shared via the YMCA with other group runs/events
