St. George Youth Center has been serving Isla Vista and Goleta youth and families since 1998, providing a safe, fun, alternative space for teens during the high risk after-school hours. Our goal is to create a space where all youth and teens feel safe, supported and empowered to be the best version of themselves
The youth center is open to young people in grades 5th -12th, and we support the strength and achievement of youth and their families through a variety of educational, recreational, cultural and leadership opportunities.
The youth center is located next to beautiful Estero Park in Isla Vista with access to large grass field and basketball courts. Recreational activities include a range of sport tournaments, ping pong and pool tournaments, dance classes, monthly girls and guys late-nights, teen lock-ins, field trips, community events and quarterly late-night dances.
The youth center offers a pool table, ping pong table, a large screen TV, Wii system and five computers with internet access as well as an array of board games and sport equipment.
We provide tutoring, homework assistance, book clubs, access to computers, internet and printing. Our services also include case management and advocacy. Homework assistance is provided by the Center staff as well as UCSB student volunteers. Services are available daily from open to closing hours.
Alcohol and other Drugs Prevention
Alcohol and other drugs education groups are offered on a weekly basis throughout the year. The groups provide youth with important facts and information regarding alcohol and other drugs as well as helping youth explore the impact of alcohol and other drugs in their lives and in their community.
Through the Leadership and Jr. Leadership Clubs, teens in the 8th -12th grades have the opportunity to gain leadership skills and become engaged in the community. Teens are required to commit for a minimum of one academic year and new students are selected every summer. Leadership participants coordinate community events, and also identify and work on various issues or concerns affecting youth and their community.
I’m a Student Too
What’s our purpose? As youth, we want to:
Reduce alcohol and other drug abuse in Isla Vista
Have a better, safer and healthier place where youth and families can grow up
We are students, too!
St. George Youth Center partners with various organizations to provide teens and families with a range of opportunities and experiences.
